Rosemary Bookkeeping has expanded its expert bookkeeping services into Croydon under qualified account Dean Kokshun.

Rosemary Bookkeeping has expanded its expert bookkeeping services into Croydon and the surrounding areas for the first time under the expert supervision of Dean Kokshun.

Dean’s expertise in bookkeeping is unparalleled, with multiple prestigious qualifications and decades of experience supporting him in helping business owners with their bookkeeping needs.

He is supported in his venture into self-actualisation by way of business by the Rosemary Bookkeeping, its proven model for success, its national franchise network and the central support team of franchisor ServiceMaster Ltd.

Dean’s Road to Rosemary

This began with him joining the bookkeeping and external audit departments of KPMG Mauritius – then known as Peat Marwick.

He then qualified with the ACCA in the UK in 1993.

As a qualified accountant, he has held senior positions within small UK accountancy practices, accumulating 30 years of experience.

Throughout his career, Dean has excelled in external auditing of small to medium-sized entities, financial reporting, and management reporting across diverse industry sectors, including retail, services, manufacturing, hospitality, and investment.

Dean’s extensive background and experience in accountancy have provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of financial reporting and external auditing.

Having worked with businesses in various sectors and clients in the UK and EU, he has developed a versatile skill set in navigating different accounting systems and processes.

His expertise in preparing financial statements following the UK GAAP and conducting external audits for small to medium-sized companies has equipped him with “a keen eye for detail and a commitment to compliance,” he says.

This experience has provided Dean insight and directly informs his approach to providing professional bookkeeping services for local businesses in Croydon and its surrounding areas under the Rosemary Bookkeeping brand.

Why Rosemary Bookkeeping?

Dean says he chose the franchise route for its proven business model and the comprehensive support it offers.

“Franchising with Rosemary Bookkeeping provides me with a ready-made system, established brand recognition, and ongoing support from a reputable franchisor.”

This reduces the risks associated with starting a business independently and ensures Dean has access to the wealth of experience and resources to help him succeed.

“I am excited to be a part of Rosemary Bookkeeping,” he says.

“The franchise is known for its commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and delivering high-quality financial solutions.”

“With the support and reputation of ServiceMaster Ltd, I am confident in the franchise’s ability to provide comprehensive assistance to businesses needing reliable bookkeeping services.”

Dean says that he chose Rosemary Bookkeeping for several reasons, including the franchise’s commitment to delivering high-quality bookkeeping service, aligning with his professional values, and the proven systems, ongoing support, and reputation of ServiceMaster Ltd provided him with the confidence that he would be part of a successful and reputable franchise.

“Additionally, the comprehensive training and resources offered by Rosemary Bookkeeping were instrumental in my decision, ensuring I have the tools and knowledge to excel in this venture,” he adds.

Training and Support

By joining Rosemary Bookkeeping, Dean received comprehensive training as part of our two-week training academy to help equip him with the tools to succeed in his business, from technical support from long-serving franchisees to marketing and sales support from our central head office team.

“The academy process with Rosemary Bookkeeping was thorough and invaluable,” Dean says.

“The training provided a deep dive into the franchise’s systems, processes, and best practices.”

“The training staff were knowledgeable and supportive, ensuring I gained a comprehensive understanding of the business model and acquired the skills necessary for success.”

“The academy process not only equipped me with the technical knowledge but also helped franchisees and support staff meet and bond, building a friendly community for working together and supporting each other.”

The beginning of a beautiful friendship

Dean says his adaptable nature and passion for learning have prepared him to embrace his new business.

“I believe that my strong work ethic, effective communication skills, and dedication to finding solutions to complex problems will contribute to the success of the venture, ensuring that clients receive high-quality and tailored bookkeeping services,” he says.

“I’m excited to bring this wealth of expertise to my franchise business, eager to provide top-notch bookkeeping services to the local businesses in Croydon and its surrounding areas, helping business owners with their books, saving them time and money and allowing them to focus on the things they do best – like running their businesses.”

Dean’s aspirations for his business align with the opportunities presented by Croydon’s strategic development plan.

As the area undergoes urban regeneration and economic growth, Dean promises to be a key player in supporting businesses to thrive amidst these positive changes.

In line with the Croydon Council’s four-year business plan, he envisions expanding his portfolio of clients and contributing to the economic opportunities flourishing in the area, with the view to scaling up his business.

“As my client base expands, I see the potential to evolve my business into a management-style franchise.”

“This transition would be facilitated with the help and guidance from the support team at ServiceMaster Ltd, ensuring a seamless and successful shift to a model that can accommodate the increasing demands of a thriving bookkeeping business.”

Yasmin Chaudhari, Senior Marketing Executive for ServiceMaster Commercial Brands, says,

“We’re so excited to have Dean join the Rosemary Bookkeeping network as we expand our services to the local businesses of Croydon and surrounding areas.”

“Dean joins us with a wealth of experience in finance, and we wish Dean all the best with his new venture with Rosemary Bookkeeping.”

Introducing Hanaa Raydan and Ahmad Aboul-Hosn, the new owners of Rosemary Bookkeeping Wembley.

Rosemary Bookkeeping is bringing its expert bookkeeping services to Wembley and the surrounding areas for the first time under the expert supervision of Hanaa Raydan and the support of her business partner Ahmad Aboul-Hosn.

We sat down with Hanna and Ahmad to discuss their new adventure and why they invested in a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise business.

Who are Hanaa and Ahmad?

The business partners are keen entrepreneurs with experience living and working in North London’s thriving business community.

A mother of three girls and the holder of multiple qualifications in business development, accounting and bookkeeping, Hanaa has wanted to own and operate her own bookkeeping business for many years.

After working as a part-time bookkeeper since 2015, she has finally achieved her dream of supporting her local community with the support of a trusted and expert brand behind her, alongside her business partner.

Ahmad Aboul-Hosn is a local entrepreneur who has lived and worked in the Golders Green area for over fifteen years.

He is a father of two boys and loves spending time with them, his dog, and cycling when he is not growing and nurturing his businesses.

It is in the shipping franchise business that Ahmad owns that his and Hanaa’s work overlapped, as she worked within this business while working as a treasurer for a local charity.

Ahmad is passionate about the businesses in the Wembley area and, having studied bookkeeping is excited to help support Hanaa as part of Rosemary Bookkeeping Wembley.

With his existing knowledge and experience in franchising, Ahmad encouraged Hanaa to follow her dream of owning a bookkeeping business using a franchise model to gain the support of a renowned franchisor and nationwide franchise network.

The benefits of a Rosemary Bookkeeping business

With a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise, Hanaa says she has the support and expertise to succeed in business by building upon her existing knowledge and specialism.

She is excited to grow alongside her clients and business partner and support the community where she has lived and worked for a long time.

With Rosemary, she says, “I can make connections with the community while providing services in a professional way.”

Hanaa has been prepared to hit the ground running with her two-week training academy at the ServiceMaster franchise support centre, helping her set up her business and providing varied support from operations to sales and marketing.

The process, she adds, was easy and straightforward, thanks to taking everything step by step with “advice from experts who knew what they were talking about.”

“I didn’t think it would be that easy!” she says.

“You find yourself in a rhythm of doing tasks bit by bit, and before you know it, you’re ready to go!”

With the business now open and providing support to clients in the Wembley area, Hanaa is excited to deliver quality and consistent bookkeeping services to her clients in the short term, with the goal of expanding her territory within the next five years.

Yasmin Chaudhari, Senior Marketing Executive and Marketing Manager for Rosemary Bookkeeping, says:

“I’d like to personally welcome Hanaa and Ahmad to our ever-growing Rosemary Bookkeeping network.

This is a really exciting time for the brand and Hanaa and Ahmad in particular as we look to extend our services to businesses within the locality of Wembley.

Their experience and business mindset make her a great addition to the network of franchise partners, and we look forward to supporting her as she grows her business in the years to come.”

Meet Zoe Barnard-Rowland, the brand-new owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping in Exeter.

Rosemary Bookkeeping Exeter is now under the new and expert supervision of Zoe Barnard-Rowland, an FCCA-qualified accountant with over 25 years of experience working for over 30 companies, optimising their bookkeeping processes.

We sat down with Zoe to discuss her new adventure and why she chose to purchase Rosemary Bookkeeping Exeter.

Background

During her 25 years in accounts, Zoe has worked her way up by working long-term and in temp positions for different companies, gaining experience and qualifications as she went.

Having worked in multiple sectors, from insurance to energy supply, media and home care, in roles from accounts assistant to financial controller, Zoe says she has “seen pretty much every financial system that’s going.”

While working across sectors, she became adept at identifying these packages, picking them up quickly, identifying similarities to other packages and taking that information forward to streamline processes for the companies she’s worked for.

Why Rosemary Bookkeeping?

Taking over from the previous owner, Zoe takes on an existing client base alongside supporting new small business owners who want support with their bookkeeping to grow their business or streamline their processes.

Zoe came to Rosemary Bookkeeping after taking redundancy from her previous company in 2023.

Realising she was at a crossroads, she decided to take the opportunity to branch out, invest in herself, and use her redundancy package to purchase her franchise.

Initially, she was unsure of where to start but knew a franchise model would give her the support she needed to go into business for herself.

“I can do bookkeeping with my eyes closed,” she says. “But having franchise support makes the fresh start less daunting.”

Having looked at different opportunities, Zoe decided Rosemary was perfect for her because of the amount of head office support the brand offers – allowing her to be her own boss while still being part of a company and community of like-minded business owners.

“If there is someone responsible for marketing, legal or HR, and are there as your main point of contact, it gives you that comfort and backing,” she says.

Now, what was daunting has been made easy with the right franchise.

Aspirations

Zoe is now excited to be her own boss and grow alongside the business (which she says she plans to expand once she has found her feet) and her husband, who will support her with data entry.

“At the moment, Lee is excited about bookkeeping. I’m excited about checking his work,” she jokes.

Sarah Connop, owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping Shrewsbury and Telford, shares her experience as a Rosemary Bookkeeping Franchisee.

Rosemary Bookkeeping is one of the UK’s only bookkeeping franchises.

Our business owners work for themselves but not by themselves to deliver personalised and expert bookkeeping services to commercial clients and small business owners nationwide.

About Sarah Connop

Sarah Connop opened her Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise, Rosemary Bookkeeping Shrewsbury and Telford, in September 2021, having been an accountant for over 15 years in various sectors, including retail, insurance, and financial services.

Due to her passion for numbers and helping people, Sarah said she loved these roles as they allowed her to help people make sense of their numbers.

Why did Sarah join Rosemary Bookkeeping?

As the mother to a young family and a Labrador who loves long hilly walks across Shropshire, Sarah wanted a business that would utilise her experience and let her be in charge of her time and future.

This meant that when she found out about Rosemary Bookkeeping through a close friend who was part of our network, it was a natural fit for her, as she “wanted to do something I was proud of and to support [her] local thriving small business community, with the flexibility of being there for [her] children.”

Furthermore, she was attracted to the Rosemary model because “Rosemary was highly recommended by its franchise owners.”

“I was attracted to the level of support offered by the head office and fellow franchise owners,” she says.

How’s it going?

Even opening her business in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah hasn’t been held back.

Sarah has used the tried and tested Rosemary model, which grants business owners the unique opportunity to achieve an attractive turnover based on recurring income from loyal clients.

Sarah has achieved more than 200% growth from year one to year two and is on track to achieve a minimum of 33% growth from year two to year three!

Thrilled with her progress and aiming to grow the business by 40% each year, Sarah says she is overjoyed with what she has achieved in her business.

“I have been able to successfully start the business, run the business, and be there for family more, which is everything I had hoped for,” she says.

Words of advice

As a thriving Rosemary Bookkeeping franchisee, Sarah has some advice for anyone looking to start a new business:

“It can be daunting and hard work owning your own business,” she says, “but the rewards of being own your boss and being in control of your future are worth it!”

“Do your research into the local community to ensure there are plenty of opportunities for bookkeepers. For example, I knew Shrewsbury had a thriving small business community.”

Nirmal Thakkar, owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping Garden City, shares her experience as a Rosemary Bookkeeping Franchisee.

Rosemary Bookkeeping is one of the UK’s only bookkeeping franchises.

Our business owners work for themselves but not by themselves to deliver personalised and expert bookkeeping services to commercial clients and small business owners nationwide.

Nirmal Thakkar opened her Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise, Rosemary Bookkeeping Garden City, in July 2022 after the brand was recommended by a friend who is a CIMA-qualified accountant.

Upon having a brand intro call with ServiceMaster Brands UK Franchise Sales, Nirmal was sure she and Rosemary were a perfect match.

“When I met people at Rosemary, I felt that I could be a part of the family, and I will never feel left out.”

“I feel proud to be a part of the Rosemary Franchise,” she says.

Who is Nirmal Thakkar?

With a Master’s in Business Administration and having worked in the financial industry for about 15 years, and as part of a family of accountants, Nirmal supports her clients with years of knowledge and experience.

“My husband is a Financial Director of his property-based company in the UK. He is an accountant. All the men in my family are accountants.”

“Bookkeeping runs in my blood,” she says.

As a mum in a family of four, Nirmal balances her responsibilities as a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise owner, mother, and committee member of her local Indian Cultural Association, which includes planning events and cultural activities throughout the year like Holi, Diwali and Navratri.

Why Rosemary Bookkeeping?

As a busy, family-oriented businesswoman who is entrenched in her local community, Nirmal chose Rosemary Bookkeeping to “work for [herself] and have control of [her] work-life balance.”

Franchisees like Nirmal also benefit from being part of a trusted brand, a nationwide network of bookkeepers, and a centralised and dedicated franchisor support team that helps with queries, best practices, sales, marketing, and operations.

The tried and tested Rosemary Bookkeeping model ensures they are on track to succeed in all they do – with the unique opportunity to achieve a turnover of £135,000 in just five years, based on an average commercial job value of £2,100 pa.

The Rosemary Bookkeeping Experience

Nirmal says the fundamentals of running a successful Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise have been to take small steps and work to her strengths.

“My people skills have [seen] me achieve success,” she says. Having also received esteem for her interpersonal skills, Nirmal knows that she can use this to her advantage when faced with the things she finds harder – like aspects of marketing.

“Face-to-face marketing helps a lot, as it shows your confidence and commitment in what you do, and the business owners can feel the same,” she says.

Words of advice

She says this commitment is what will enable your success as a franchisee.

“No matter who you are and what you have done, your commitment will make you successful.”

“If you are ready to work for yourselves and are passionate about your business, you will always succeed.”

The essentials of writing a great business plan.

So, you’re ready to write your business plan.

First of all, congratulations on deciding to go into business!

The business plan is one of the first (and most important) documents to complete when starting a business.

Making it a good one is vital for many reasons.

Whether it is to apply for finance, attract a business partner or give you a clear path to achieving your business dreams, ensure that your plan achieves what you set out for it to do.

What needs to be covered in a business plan?

Executive Summary

The purpose of your Executive Summary is to make your business proposition understood by others.

Think of it as a short paragraph outlining what your business is and what it sets out to achieve.

Business Description

In addition to your summary, the business description should further detail your business’s purpose.

Here are some key questions to consider when writing this section.

  • What are the products/services it will provide?
  • What is its overall structure?
  • How will it achieve the business goals?

Market Analysis

This section is dedicated to the research underpinning your decision to go into business.

It includes market, competitor, and customer research.

It may be helpful to use SWOT analysis here.

In this section, describe the activities that will take place to attract customers to enquire and buy from you.

Financials

Reveal the financial goals and expectations of the business in this section.

Therefore, we recommend getting as much out of your franchise journey as possible.

At Rosemary Bookkeeping, we offer a plethora of support, so you can make the most of your franchisor relationship.

Support

The support you can receive as a franchisee in all stages of your journey is invaluable.

Turn the corner using a proven franchise business model.

A franchise is the perfect route if you want to be in business for yourself but not by yourself.

They offer the benefit of an established brand, a proven business model and support in the areas where you need it.

There are almost 48,000 franchise businesses in the UK, and many brands to choose from.

But this much choice can be a little daunting. Analysis paralysis is real. It’s so easy to get caught in its safety net.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a few pointers to help set you on your way to breaking free from the 9-5.

Why are you looking at a franchise?

It’s important to know what your ‘why’ is. Why do you want to go into business?

Here are some common whys:

  • “I want to be my own boss.”
  • “I’ve noticed a gap in the market.”
  • “I can do it better than they do it.”
  • “I want a better lifestyle for my family.”
  • “I want to invest my redundancy/inheritance.”

Once you know why, it’s easier to find something suitable.

What are your options?

Your options are likely narrowed down by the available territory, cost, commitment, and credentials required to join.

Taking all of those into account, you’ll still find yourself with a lot of options. Choose the one most suited to your ‘why’.

Then, do your research.

Research

Simply for ease, online research is the best place to start.

Methods of online franchise research:

  • Take a look at franchise directories
  • Read published franchise articles
  • Check associations like the BFA (British Franchise Association)
  • Visit franchisor websites
  • Follow social media channels for a broad and varied spectrum of opportunities.

For offline research, speak to franchisees and ask for advice from respected sources.

Where possible, utilise the franchise opportunities’ services for insight into the business.

Enquire & Engage

Once you have narrowed your search, enquire with the franchise brands that most suit your ‘why’.

Now is your opportunity to conduct more in-depth research and to form a relationship with the franchisor.

In franchising, relationships are the bread and butter. They make the world go around.

So, make sure it clicks. The business and the brand feel right for you to take advantage of the opportunity.

ServiceMaster Ltd. is committed to aiding your research, ensuring your decision to join us is right for you.

We sat down with ‘paperwork queen’ Karen Mann the new owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping North Dorset and Salisbury to discuss her new business.

From a young age, Karen Mann loved figures, paperwork, and numbers. She says when she was at school she always thought about being an accountant. But, as she tells me, during our sit-down following her completed induction academy to Rosemary Bookkeeping, life took a different path.

Prior Career

Karen has worked for a waste management company for the last 17 years. She began in their customer service department, but within nine months, had been promoted to running their accounts office.

As an office manager, Karen oversaw the operation of accounts and managed a team of 25 other people. So, when the Financial Director retired, she was well-prepared to take up the position of Company Director.

This entailed running all the accounts side of the business, handling all administration, and doing the management accounts to be sent to the company accountant.

This work has given Karen expert technical knowledge and a wealth of experience in management, as well as the ability to work alongside others and help them with things they have found difficult.

A skill which she knows stands her in great stead as a bookkeeper.

Finding Rosemary Bookkeeping

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Karen decided that after 17 years in the same place, she wanted to do something on her own and start her own business.

“I had been working for the same company for 17 years and it felt like it was time to go and do something for myself.”

With her experience and love of figures, the path was clear to Karen:

“I thought, why not run my own bookkeeping company?”

However, all was not certain. Karen says that the one thing that always held her back from setting up her own business was the worry of coming across a problem that she had never encountered before and being unsure of how to help the client.

Then, whilst Karen was looking for jobs, she found Rosemary Bookkeeping. The possibility of joining a franchise eliminated this worry for Karen as she wouldn’t be in business alone.

“Coming across the franchise, I realised that that support network behind actually covers off that element. You’re never going to be on your own.

There’s never going to be something that you can’t find the answer to, somebody will always be able to either let you know or direct you to where to find it,” she says.

“If you’re on your own, it could take you hours of Googling or trying to phone through to ask people and not getting through to the right department, so you could end up costing yourself more money in time from trying to dig those issues out.

Whereas having the franchisor behind you who can direct you to the right place will save you hours of that trudging.”

So, Karen got in touch with our friendly franchise sales team.

“Reading through the website and reading on the BFA website about Rosemary and it just instantly felt like it was going to be a really good fit. It suited my personality and my experience and having a support network behind you gives you that reassurance.”

Getting started

With the support of a renowned nationwide franchisor behind her, Karen has finally been able to realise her dream of working for herself as a bookkeeper.

And she’s ready to go. Having completed her comprehensive Rosemary Bookkeeping training academy, Karen has been guided through the ins and outs of our franchise model and supported in setting up every aspect of her business, from marketing to sales, to operations.

“Doing the academy and starting to see how everything will work in practice has been really good I really enjoyed the whole thing,” she says.

“It is marrying up and I can see everything now slotting into place and how it’s all going to work.”

Launching her business today, she says that she is raring to get started helping customers and putting her love of bookkeeping to good use.

“I am a bit of a paperwork queen,” she says.

“I love paperwork, I love Excel, and figures are what I’m about. The whole of bookkeeping, I just love it.”

“I’m really looking forward to doing all of that and getting into the nitty gritty with customers and solving their issues and getting it all nice and straight for them.”

Could you be a bookkeeper?

Bookkeeping can be complex and time-consuming, but with the right support, it doesn’t have to be.

As a Rosemary Bookkeeper, you’ll provide a transparent and expert service in your local area, backed by a network of other experienced accountancy professionals.

If you’re looking for a change and think Rosemary Bookkeeping could be the right fit for you, get in touch with our franchise sales team today to book a discovery session and find out about available opportunities near you.

We sat down with Waqas Chughtai, the new owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping Reading, to discuss why he decided to buy a Rosemary Bookkeeping Franchise.

Waqas Chughtai has had an extensive career working in accountancy and finance and is now adding another string to his bow by taking over as the owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping Reading.

The business, which was previously run by Mike Wallace, has been placed in the capable hands of Waqas, following a sale earlier this year.

Prior Career

Waqas is no stranger to what it takes to run a small business. With many years of experience behind him in growing companies in the accountancy sector and undertaking multiple roles in his impressive career.

A senior and fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Waqas started his career at KPMG and has since grown his position and career in many companies including GO-ERP and Avanade, before starting his practice – WAC & Co. in 2012.

These saw him taking on many roles, as he grew to Finance Manager, Financial Controller, CFO, and ultimately a Finance Director position.

Waqas says he “Left [his] permanent role in 2012 because [he] always wanted to be in practice and managing [his] own business.”

During the initial phase of growing his business, Waqas worked part-time, simultaneously working with Evernote, a sister company of Microsoft.

“I contracted with them for a few years,” Waqas says. “[Working on] system implementation on the financial module side of things and consistently growing my practice in the background.”

Following the acquisition of a running practice called E-Accountants Ltd, Waqas’ services and expertise were able to expand further into accountancy. As such, he went full-time at his practice in 2017.

“We are now of reasonably good size,” Waqas says. “We have a back office as well as a couple of guys working here, a small team of seven or eight now.”

Though offering payroll and other accounting services through E-Accountants, Waqas wanted to expand further into bookkeeping.

“We were doing a bit of bookkeeping but not mostly bookkeeping clients,” he says.

Finding a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise

Looking to expand, Waqas didn’t set out with the intention of looking into franchising but says that once he started looking, he began to see the clear benefits.

“You are part of a bigger group,” he says. “And it’s just an added peace-of-mind for a client [when] they’re dealing with someone who is part of a group rather than just a sole practitioner.”

Why Rosemary Bookkeeping?

As part of an extensive and reputable franchise network, our business owners are in charge of their businesses, but with the operational, marketing, and system-wide support of a national franchisor.

With a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise, you can grow a thriving business, without being in it alone.

Backed by a network of like-minded professionals across the UK and an expert head office team, we ensure that you are in business for yourself, but not by yourself.

As Waqas says, the Rosemary model is,

“An established system that has worked for many.

For someone who is entering or starting up a new practice, it provides all of the basic and essential ingredients under one roof and provides the necessary training, staff, and material that you need to really kick start your business.”

Moving into the future

With his Rosemary Bookkeeping business, Waqas can achieve synergy throughout his practice and provide value-added services for new and existing clients of his, and of Rosemary Bookkeeping Reading.

With our current financial landscape shifting near-constantly, lots of small businesses up and down the UK are unsure of what their futures hold.

As a Rosemary Bookkeeping business owner, Waqas and the rest of our franchisees support and guide other small businesses through what may otherwise be confusing and turbulent waters.

“A lot is changing,” says Waqas.

“In regards to, let’s say, MTD. MTD was a very recent phenomenon. Larger companies are prepared for this because they have the forms and the talent to guide them.

But smaller businesses are confused as to how it affects them. So, [we want] to ensure that we are there to help them.”

Want to run your own business?

If, like Waqas, you want to support or start your own business by helping other small businesses with their bookkeeping, get in touch with us today.

We sat down with Mohammad Hossain, the owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping in Stratford to chat about his experience as a franchisee for Rosemary Bookkeeping.

Mohammad’s Experience

Mohammad came to the UK in 2009 to begin training in accountancy with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Within three years he was ready to start work in an accounting firm, getting some hands-on and practical experience as a training provider.

Whilst continuing with his study, Mohammad spent seven months training on SAGE accounting and payroll.

During this time, he also practised at different accounting, practice, and charity firms to build a base of practical accountancy skills like managing VAT and accounts, with the hope of one day being able to build a client base of his own and become a trusted source for people looking for help with their finances.

A change of career

When the COVID pandemic began in 2020, Mohammad was able to take a step back and gain a fresh perspective. He realised he wanted to start his own business.

He realised he had been gaining experience for around 10 years now, it was time to make something of his own. So, he did some research and decided that he wanted to go the route of franchising because of the added support he would gain from a franchise network.

“I wanted to be independent and be out on my own,” he says.

“I was very confident in the skills, knowledge and expertise I had in accounting and services like payroll, VAT, and CIS, and that I could run my own business.

I knew it would be difficult for me to do this on my own without any kind of support to help me strengthen and grow the business. So, I decided not to go alone and to go with a franchise that could give me all the support I needed to grow.”

Mohammad then spent a long time looking into franchises that would be a good fit for his experience and that he felt would be a reliable investment for him but says he struggled to find anything that was a good fit.

“I had been gaining experience for the last ten years and I wanted to use my skills and expertise for my own business. So, I was looking for something that suited me but wasn’t finding anything.”

Finding Rosemary Bookkeeping

But then, whilst looking in the franchise magazine Point Franchise, Mohammad found ServiceMaster and Rosemary Bookkeeping. He got in touch with our friendly franchise recruitment team and was impressed by the simultaneous friendliness and professionalism of the ServiceMaster and Rosemary team.

Mohammad then asked Emma for some references for the other Rosemary franchisees before making any decisions, and says he was left very optimistic due to the responses of the other business owners, as well as feeling reassured in his investment due to Rosemary’s background “as a multinational company with a very strong background.”

Training as a Rosemary business owner

After deciding to join the Rosemary Bookkeeping network as a franchise owner, Mohammad underwent our comprehensive two-week training academy to become acquainted with the systems, processes, and operations of managing a Rosemary Bookkeeping business.

As someone who is always looking to grow and expand his knowledge, Mohammad says he enjoyed the experience of the training academy.

“I found the academy excellent and that period of training really exciting. Rosemary prepared so much to welcome me on board that was not only engaging with the business, but training, support, and preparation for all the knowledge and technology the business needs.

Everything I needed, they provided me [with]. The academy was perfect.

Even though I was already trained under SAGE, Xero, and other bookkeeping steps, came out with more knowledge, new skills, and experience.”

Network support and getting settled

Due to starting his business during the COVID-19 paramedic, Mohammad initially struggled to build a client base. But he was supported through this by the franchise network.

“In the beginning, there weren’t many clients, mostly ones from my old business. But I was assured by Nina [Rosemary Bookkeeping brand leader] and other Rosemary franchisees to be patient and it would grow and that’s what happened.

Now I’m really happy I am getting more clients, more responses, getting familiar with the people and local businesses and it’s just looking very positive.”

The rewards of a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise

Now, Mohammad says he finds being a franchise owner very rewarding for many reasons. Chiefly though, he says he gains satisfaction from building a strong customer base and building brand awareness in his territory – something he says is helped by being part of the wider Rosemary brand.

“I’m getting clients through the website and now my friends and other people ask me about Rosemary, whereas previously they didn’t know about it, or people don’t know the difference between bookkeeping and accounting.

But now thanks to the website or marketing, the Rosemary name is getting out there online and locally, so that when people search for bookkeeping organisations – my name comes up as a leading name.”

But at the heart of it, Mohammad’s primary source of satisfaction comes from helping his clients and feeling accomplished in that he can help them when they need it. And due to being part of a wider network, when he needs help and support, it is on hand.

“The best thing is all work I do for the clients and the satisfaction from being able to help them through something myself, but also knowing that whenever I face difficulties, there is support and the rest of the franchisees who can help me. At any time, I can leave questions or messages and get a response very quickly, which is wonderful.”

Mohammad says that this makes working with a franchise a lot better than owning a business by yourself. Even though he was concerned about the initial investment.

“[Owning a business on your own] will be really difficult in this competitive market because the big brands will not let you get clients easily. But working with Rosemary, within one year I can see that I am getting a positive return on the investment.”
