Introducing Hanaa Raydan and Ahmad Aboul-Hosn, the new owners of Rosemary Bookkeeping Wembley.

Rosemary Bookkeeping is bringing its expert bookkeeping services to Wembley and the surrounding areas for the first time under the expert supervision of Hanaa Raydan and the support of her business partner Ahmad Aboul-Hosn.

We sat down with Hanna and Ahmad to discuss their new adventure and why they invested in a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise business.

Who are Hanaa and Ahmad?

The business partners are keen entrepreneurs with experience living and working in North London’s thriving business community.

A mother of three girls and the holder of multiple qualifications in business development, accounting and bookkeeping, Hanaa has wanted to own and operate her own bookkeeping business for many years.

After working as a part-time bookkeeper since 2015, she has finally achieved her dream of supporting her local community with the support of a trusted and expert brand behind her, alongside her business partner.

Ahmad Aboul-Hosn is a local entrepreneur who has lived and worked in the Golders Green area for over fifteen years.

He is a father of two boys and loves spending time with them, his dog, and cycling when he is not growing and nurturing his businesses.

It is in the shipping franchise business that Ahmad owns that his and Hanaa’s work overlapped, as she worked within this business while working as a treasurer for a local charity.

Ahmad is passionate about the businesses in the Wembley area and, having studied bookkeeping is excited to help support Hanaa as part of Rosemary Bookkeeping Wembley.

With his existing knowledge and experience in franchising, Ahmad encouraged Hanaa to follow her dream of owning a bookkeeping business using a franchise model to gain the support of a renowned franchisor and nationwide franchise network.

The benefits of a Rosemary Bookkeeping business

With a Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise, Hanaa says she has the support and expertise to succeed in business by building upon her existing knowledge and specialism.

She is excited to grow alongside her clients and business partner and support the community where she has lived and worked for a long time.

With Rosemary, she says, “I can make connections with the community while providing services in a professional way.”

Hanaa has been prepared to hit the ground running with her two-week training academy at the ServiceMaster franchise support centre, helping her set up her business and providing varied support from operations to sales and marketing.

The process, she adds, was easy and straightforward, thanks to taking everything step by step with “advice from experts who knew what they were talking about.”

“I didn’t think it would be that easy!” she says.

“You find yourself in a rhythm of doing tasks bit by bit, and before you know it, you’re ready to go!”

With the business now open and providing support to clients in the Wembley area, Hanaa is excited to deliver quality and consistent bookkeeping services to her clients in the short term, with the goal of expanding her territory within the next five years.

Yasmin Chaudhari, Senior Marketing Executive and Marketing Manager for Rosemary Bookkeeping, says:

“I’d like to personally welcome Hanaa and Ahmad to our ever-growing Rosemary Bookkeeping network.

This is a really exciting time for the brand and Hanaa and Ahmad in particular as we look to extend our services to businesses within the locality of Wembley.

Their experience and business mindset make her a great addition to the network of franchise partners, and we look forward to supporting her as she grows her business in the years to come.”

Meet Zoe Barnard-Rowland, the brand-new owner of Rosemary Bookkeeping in Exeter.

Rosemary Bookkeeping Exeter is now under the new and expert supervision of Zoe Barnard-Rowland, an FCCA-qualified accountant with over 25 years of experience working for over 30 companies, optimising their bookkeeping processes.

We sat down with Zoe to discuss her new adventure and why she chose to purchase Rosemary Bookkeeping Exeter.

Background

During her 25 years in accounts, Zoe has worked her way up by working long-term and in temp positions for different companies, gaining experience and qualifications as she went.

Having worked in multiple sectors, from insurance to energy supply, media and home care, in roles from accounts assistant to financial controller, Zoe says she has “seen pretty much every financial system that’s going.”

While working across sectors, she became adept at identifying these packages, picking them up quickly, identifying similarities to other packages and taking that information forward to streamline processes for the companies she’s worked for.

Why Rosemary Bookkeeping?

Taking over from the previous owner, Zoe takes on an existing client base alongside supporting new small business owners who want support with their bookkeeping to grow their business or streamline their processes.

Zoe came to Rosemary Bookkeeping after taking redundancy from her previous company in 2023.

Realising she was at a crossroads, she decided to take the opportunity to branch out, invest in herself, and use her redundancy package to purchase her franchise.

Initially, she was unsure of where to start but knew a franchise model would give her the support she needed to go into business for herself.

“I can do bookkeeping with my eyes closed,” she says. “But having franchise support makes the fresh start less daunting.”

Having looked at different opportunities, Zoe decided Rosemary was perfect for her because of the amount of head office support the brand offers – allowing her to be her own boss while still being part of a company and community of like-minded business owners.

“If there is someone responsible for marketing, legal or HR, and are there as your main point of contact, it gives you that comfort and backing,” she says.

Now, what was daunting has been made easy with the right franchise.

Aspirations

Zoe is now excited to be her own boss and grow alongside the business (which she says she plans to expand once she has found her feet) and her husband, who will support her with data entry.

“At the moment, Lee is excited about bookkeeping. I’m excited about checking his work,” she jokes.

Is the stress of financial paperwork making you ill?

A  former IT specialist, who now runs a bookkeeping business in Newbury, was named  Olderpreneur Franchisee Of The Year, at the British  Franchise Association’s 2016 bfa HSBC Franchisee of the Year Awards ceremony, held at Town Hall Birmingham last night (September 29th).

Steve Brown said: “I am proud, delighted and a little shocked – it’s great to be recognised for your success – as well as having a sustainable business which I can pass on to my family in years to come.”

Pip Wilkins, bfa chief executive, said: “Steve’s shown the ability and resilience to overcome many challenges. From leaving a corporate environment and starting his own business, to managing that business while caring for his wife, his calm head and steadfast approach has translated into a fast-growing business – and now a national award as well.”

Andrew Brattesani, UK head of franchising for HSBC, commented: “While running his business and helping his daughter with hers, Steve’s still found time to put new ideas into the wider network for the benefit of his fellow Rosemary Bookkeeping franchisees. He’s a brilliant example of how in franchising, experience is highly valued and no age limit applies.”

Steve took over the Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise six years ago, and since then he has seen turnover increase by 37% per annum; client numbers have almost doubled since 2012 and one client is a company with a turnover of £5m.

“We are so proud of the success Steve and his daughter TJ have achieved and we will continue to support and guide them in growing their business even further” says Lisa Curteis, Recruitment Director Rosemary Bookkeeping Ltd.

Rosemary Bookkeeping has released more territories in the UK so please contact us on 0345 862 0072 to find out more information.

Neeta Patel attended a bfa sponsored franchise exhibition and was curious when the name Rosemary Bookkeeping kept being mentioned.  Being a qualified Management Accountant she was initially researching Accountancy franchises but her curiosity won and she looked the Rosemary Franchise website and booked in for a Discovery Event.

Having worked in industry for all of her working life, Neeta was seeking to find the ideal work/life balance following the birth of her son.  She wanted to work – working with numbers was something that always interested her – but she also wanted to spend quality time with her son.  A traditional 9-5 role didn’t fit this bill so when she was made redundant in November 2015 this was the ideal opportunity to search for the right position for her, hence her visiting a franchise exhibition.

“In 12 months’ time I want to have established myself as a reputable bookkeeper in my area of Northampton and to have built up a sizeable business whereby I can begin to employ staff and turn my role into a more management position”.

The Rosemary BookkeepingTM franchise responds to the increasing need in the UK for an affordable, professional bookkeeping service that supports both the client and the accountant. Neeta will be working in harmony with her clients’ accountants, providing them with exactly what they need in the format they want saving his clients’ time and money.

The franchise is based on a business concept that has been established and refined since 2002, providing a unique bookkeeping system within a fully supported franchise package. Neeta will be able to obtain great flexibility and the potential for a superb work-life balance, that will allow her to juggle her new business whilst looking after the family home with her husband and child.

The Founding Partners have over 60 years of business and bookkeeping experience between them in the essential business disciplines of accounting, operations, sales and marketing.  As an Associate Member of the bfa, Rosemary Bookkeeping has a proven ability to sustain a franchise network successfully.

Rosemary Bookkeeping has recently opened up more territory opportunities in the Midlands, North of England and South East. For more information please call 0345 8620072.

Since joining Rosemary Bookkeeping in January 2013, Mike Wallace has been building a successful and growing business. Achieving his goals year-on-year, Mike claims that his success is all down to simply following the Rosemary Bookkeeping business model! Although the hard work and dedication he has put into the business may have also contributed.

Having operated as a one-man band for the first three years, Mike is now finding that his capacity for new work and clients is diminishing and he’s ready to take on a member of staff to help him grow. This is not a route that all franchisees choose to take but the Rosemary model gives them the option to take the business as far as they wish.

“Having worked as a business partner previously, I had had a taste of running a business and I knew that it was something I wanted to pursue further. Rosemary Bookkeeping suited my existing skills and gave me the help and support I needed in my areas of weakness. Completing the bookkeeping and the technical side of things wasn’t a problem for me, I needed support in marketing my business and gaining new customers. I just did everything Rosemary Bookkeeping told me to do and it has worked!” explains Mike.

The Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise has over 20 nationwide franchised offices with a potential market size of approximately 6 million individual businesses. The franchise is based on a business concept that has been established and refined since 2002 providing a unique bookkeeping system within a fully-supported franchise package. Franchisees obtain huge flexibility with superb work-life balance – they work the hours they want, around their own commitments.

Like many Rosemary Bookkeeping franchisees, Mike appreciated the support on offer from Head Office and being part of a network of like-minded people with a range of experiences and skillsets.

“There’s a lot of support from the franchisees. It’s nice to have someone to ask how they would do things. It’s a great group of people and they have a lot of combined experience so there’s some great advice within the network. I am in contact with franchisees on a regular basis we call each other to discuss technical issues or just to see how it’s going,” adds Mike.

Mike chose to join a franchise because he wanted the safety net of a structured and established business model and he recognises the importance of following it to the letter to help get the business up and running and to gain customers.

“I have spoken to a few franchisees in the past and one or two said they were having doubts about their move into franchising originally because it didn’t seem to be going so well. However, it turned out that was because they weren’t following the business model in the way that you should – the model is there to help you and you can expect to be less successful if you do not follow it!” concludes Mike.

Steve Brown of Rosemary Bookkeeping Newbury is a finalist in the Olderpreneur of the Year category of the BFA’s Franchisee of the Year Awards.

Steve started his bookkeeping business in 2010 with his daughter, TJ Sutherland, who operates the Basingstoke territory.

He says: “I was working long hours in IT as a global business support manager in a pressurised environment and my daughter was looking to go back to work after having her daughter. We both wanted to achieve a better work/life balance.

TEAMWORK

“Since 2010 our business has grown extensively and we now have two full-time and three part-time members of staff. TJ and I work as a team, but each has key roles, with individual responsibility for our own territory and the clients within our territories. “Having grown the business, we now are able to take a back seat in relation to actually doing the processing and focus more on managing and growing the business. “One of my key aims at the start of the franchise was that I wanted to build a sustainable business to pass down to my children and grandchildren and support the local community. Rosemary Bookkeeping has helped me to fulfil this ambition and I hope that in our next term with Rosemary perhaps I can retire. “I am extremely proud to be a finalist in the British Franchise Association awards. It shows that even with age you can achieve great things.”

With the NatWest Encouraging Women into Franchising (EWIF) Awards 2016 behind us, we’re congratulating our winners by shining the spotlight on each of them in turn. We had more entries than ever this year and Kellie Blake from Rosemary Bookkeeping stood out in the Franchise Employee of the Year Award category sponsored by What Franchise.

Kellie was nominated for her award by her employer, Lisa Curteis who wanted her to be recognised for the hard work she puts into her role on a daily basis. Kellie has been the backbone of Rosemary Bookkeeping HQ since she joined in 2012. She has stepped up to the many challenges that 2015 has brought with dedication, passion and drive. With such a varied role, Kellie has to make sure that she’s on top form to help support their franchise network and make sure they have everything they need to be successful.

“I was surprised and delighted to win my award, being a finalist last year and not winning made me even more determined to win this year. I believe that working within a small team for a franchisor means that you need to show real strength and commitment and I think that my award entry showed this. The tasks within my role are extremely varied and I have never turned down an opportunity to learn new skills and to develop myself in order to support the franchise and our franchise partners better,” explains Kellie.

During 2015, Kellie’s role within the Rosemary Bookkeeping team stepped up due to another member of staff’s personal pressures. Not one to shy away from a challenge, Kellie stepped into her new role with the same commitment and dedication she’s shown throughout her employment. Kellie’s role includes Franchise Recruitment, Social Media planning & writing, Event Planning (Discovery Days, new franchisees training events, Franchisee Forums and franchise shows), dealing with the setting up of new franchisees, looking after the administration of Head Office, supporting existing franchisees, dealing with the initial bookkeeping enquiries and collating Rosemary Bookkeeping work – to name but a few!

“I hope that, besides bringing excellent PR for our business, my award win will highlight how I work for an excellent franchisor who takes the time to develop their staff to impact not only themselves but, most importantly, their franchise partners, and that we all have a real pride in the franchise that we want everyone to know about!” adds Kellie.

EWIF’s primary focus is to support women who are looking for a route into the franchise industry. Our remit is threefold; to encourage women to consider buying a franchise, to encourage business women to franchise their existing operations and to help franchisors attract more women to their networks. We are a not-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers, providing advice and guidance to anyone looking at trying to break into the franchise industry.

How do Rosemary Bookkeeping support franchisees during times of technological change?

Just like any business in any sector, Rosemary Bookkeeping have to keep innovating and changing the way they work in order to keep up with changes in technology. While HMRC aim for a fully digital system by 2020 so it is essential that bookkeepers remain up-to-date with advancing technologies to avoid going out of business. With such a massive shift in the way that bookkeeping is conducted, how do Rosemary Bookkeeping support their franchisees in this changing world?

Rosemary Bookkeeping support to deliver their bookkeeping services as well as marketing their business in a digital world. By keeping up to date with the latest technology and software, franchisees ensure that they stay ahead in a highly competitive market. They are trained in new ways of working to win and retain business – working smarter and faster whilst maintaining a high level of customer service.

With so many businesses now operating online and using third party software to integrate into their businesses to complete sales activity it is vital that bookkeepers understand how this impacts their clients’ business so that they don’t get left in the dark ages whilst everyone else flies into the digital world and this is where Rosemary Head Office can offer support to their franchisees.

“One of our key customers is an online retailer. The biggest difference between an online client and a regular client is the lack of paperwork. We exchange all of the documents we need online and then upload them into our own online software in order to generate an invoice for each transaction. It’s a very simplistic system. There can be VAT issues depending on where their customer is and foreign currency can be a bit more complex. Rosemary Head Office support us in the technical aspects of the work and if we ever have any queries they’re our first port of call. We structured our online system along the lines of the Rosemary system which gives us guidelines for our own business,” explain Tony and Rosie, Rosemary Bookkeeping franchisees in Cheshunt.

“At Rosemary Bookkeeping, we provide our franchisees with a knowledge bank called ‘Herbal Essences’. This helps our franchisees to differentiate between different types of client and a guide on how to provide the best service for each one. As the bookkeeping world evolves, at Rosemary Bookkeeping, we keep on top of changes and make sure that everything we do is in line with the changes. Technology changes what we do for clients and how we do it,” explains Lisa Curteis, Franchise Director at Rosemary Bookkeeping.

Rosemary Bookkeeping ensure that they stay ahead of the competition and keep their franchisees successful and thriving in the bookkeeping sector.

When you speak to the experts on this topic the replies are varied. Some say in January, some say after the school summer holidays. The truth is, it really depends on the industry, the potential clients and with the biggest differentiator being the new business owner themselves.

It’s been a successful Q1 for Rosemary Bookkeeping Franchisees with more satisfied new clients than ever! The number of small businesses operating in the UK has been steadily increasing. In the last 24 months alone there’s been 146,000 new businesses formed, taking the total number of SMEs to around 6 million. That’s a huge market! It’s no wonder Rosemary Bookkeeping are seeing even more small business clients coming to them to keep their books tidy and up-to-date.

The how, what and when to business!

With business ownership being such a fashionable and attractive route to earning a living, many people turn their thoughts towards how they will make good money and in what sector to start in. The beauty with franchising is the greatly reduced risk in using someone else’s tried, tested and proven business model. Let them make the mistakes, so you can avoid them and fast track your own success – it’s a no brainer really. That’s why franchising has an over 97% success rate (according to the bfa/NatWest annual survey). Plus, there’s already a market need established – vital if you want to get ahead.

So, we go back to timing – the when. If you are considering a service based business, then the first rule of thumb is to make sure you have a good, solid target market. We’ve already explained that business ownership is on the increase (check out recent stats on the FSB website too). Rosemary Bookkeeping is so successful because their franchisees help small firms to intelligently process and keep financial records. Yawn yawn ,boring boring some might say, but hang on a minute! Having clear and meaningful accounts isn’t just something the banks like to see when considering lending. If you’re serious about growing, you’ll need to look weekly and monthly at meaningful management accounts: profit levels and payment schedules alone help clients understand what is happening in their business so they can make decisions about how to grow, what support they need or when to get finance.

What a client says:

“I’ve always been interested in how businesses make decisions to grow and what information they use. Our Rosemary Bookkeeping franchisee provides super tailored reports before our board meetings so we can really see what is happening,”

Sarah Carlile, Director at Coconut Creatives Ltd.

The Rosemary Bookkeeping franchise has over 20 nationwide franchised offices with a potential market size of approx. 6 million individual businesses. The franchise is based on a solid business concept established in 2002 with a unique charge-by-transaction bookkeeping service. It’s clear to clients exactly what they’re paying for which offers complete transparency for new sole traders or Ltd companies. Franchisees obtain huge flexibility with superb work-life balance – they work the hours they want, around their own commitments.

Shape your future

Not only will we support you in setting up and running your business, we offer three entry levels to reflect the added training and support we provide at the higher entry levels. We know that everyone has different goals and skillsets which is why our entry levels vary depending on your goals, aspirations and experience.

  • Associate Franchise Partner – £8,970
  • Franchise Partner – £16,970
  • Managing Franchise Partner – £21,970

In the progression from Franchise Partner to Managing Franchise Partner you will receive even more training and expert advice on growing your team to help you develop your business even further.

By offering these entry levels, we give you a process of managed progression to allow qualified professionals a lower entry level with vast opportunities to grow at your own pace and when the time is right within our extensive support structure.
